For the 2024 fiscal year, the N592 billion state appropriations bill was approved by the Imo State House of Assembly.
On Thursday, the House met in plenary and approved the bill on its second and third readings.
- The “Budget of Renewed Economic Growth” allotted N491.2 billion, or 83%, for capital expenditures and N101.99 billion, or 17%, for recurrent expenses.
Speaking about the bill, the majority leader, Mr. Kanayo Onyemaechi (APC-Owerri West), stated that it would guarantee the implementation of numerous development projects for the benefit of the state.
He claimed that the governor had used the 2023 budget wisely, especially when it came to the state’s road rehabilitation and reconstruction.
He implored the legislators to move the bill along quickly so that it could be passed right away.
The state governor’s good intentions were portrayed in the bill, according to Mr. Chisom Ojukwu (APC), the member representing Nkwerre constituency.
The governor’s implementation of safeguards to prevent the misappropriation of state funds was praised by Ojukwu, the chairman of the standing Committee on Budget and Appropriations.
