The state budget for 2024 was approved by the Gombe State House of Assembly on Tuesday, amounting to N208.064 billion, an increase of N300 million over the N207.75 billion that Governor Inuwa Yahaya had proposed.
This was said in a statement made on Wednesday in Gombe by the House’s Chief Information Officer, Mr. Umaru Ma’aji.
According to the statement, Speaker of the House Abubakar Luggerewo commended the legislators for their collaboration, support, and handling of the Appropriations Bill.
Ma’aji stated that the bill was approved following a thorough examination and presentation to the house by the House Committee on Appropriations for the 2024 budget estimate.
The statement noted that the focus of the 2024 budget’s appropriations chairman, Mr. Aliyu Baba-Manu, was on finishing all of the state’s current projects.
According to Ma’aji, the chairman of his committee noted that the majority of MDA budget officers were not familiar with the budgetary regulations that were governed by the medium-term expenditure framework, or MTEF.
Therefore, Baba-Manu suggested that the budget office forward the executive council-approved budget to the ministries so they can take into account the N208 billion budget size for 2024.
A N207.75 billion budget for 2024 was submitted by Governor Yahaya to the House for consideration during the legislative session on December 4.
The proposed budget is divided into N120.5 billion, or 58%, for capital expenditures and N87.25 billion, or 42%, for recurring expenses.
Yahaya’s first budget during his second term is labeled “Budget of Continuity and Consolidation.”
