The Nigerian government has been sued by Tudun Biri residents in Kaduna State’s Igabi Local Government Area.
In response to recent bombings by the Nigerian Army that resulted in the deaths of over 100 people, the residents are requesting N33 billion in compensation.
Mukhtar Usman Esq., the villagers’ attorney, filed the lawsuit on December 8 at a Federal High Court located in Kaduna.
In addition, the residents want an apology to appear in three major newspapers at the very least.
They said that the purpose of the lawsuit was to uphold the survivors’ basic right to life.
A declaration that the deceased victims’ fundamental rights to life as guaranteed by Section 33 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 and Article 10(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (Ratification Enforcement) Act (Cap 10) LFN 2010 were violated by the personnel under the command and supervision of the Chief of Army Staff on December 3, 2023, during the celebration of the Islamic Maulud at their village of Tudun Biri in Igabi Local Government Area, is one of the reliefs sought.
The suit hearing has not been scheduled.
