Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has issued a warning to recently elected local council chairs, stating that he will not put up with financial irresponsibility and incompetence.
At the Efon Local Government Area on Monday, Oyebanji, in the person of his deputy, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, delivered the warning while commissioning some projects that the Council Chairman, Engineer Olabode Adetunji, had started and finished.
Among the completed projects are the 245-meter-long Irayo Road, the 1.2-kilometer Ita Iyana-Itamesi Road, the ALGON Comprehensive Health Center, the New Legislative Building, and solar-powered streetlights.
Speaking to the community, Oyebanji praised the council leadership for providing the people with the benefits of democracy.
“Let me reassure you that the new council leaders, who will shortly take up their various positions in each of our council regions, will be forced to maintain the pace of progress that has already been set by the incumbents.
In order to maintain our focus on improving the functionality of our local governments in Ekiti, this government will not tolerate any laxity. I congratulate the winners of the recently held election who were elected. God will provide for their success.
Adetunji, the council’s chairman, praised the governor for giving the councils free rein to use their money.
