In an effort to gauge how the 2022 floods will affect households, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, the Statistician-General of the Federation, unveiled the Nigeria Flood Impact, Recovery, and Mitigation Assessment Report on Wednesday.
During the ceremony, Adeniran said that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) collaborated to develop the survey report.
The purpose of the paper is to estimate and evaluate the effects of the floods that devastated several areas of the nation in 2022.
He said, “This is to provide evidence for the government to put in plans to minimize or forestall any future occurrence, as well as to take necessary palliative measures.”
Adeniran claims that significant new information on the household’s resilience and post-disaster recovery activities was also supplied by the research.
He said that Anambra, Jigawa, Bayelsa, Delta, Kogi, and Nasarawa were the six states where the survey was conducted.
“The purpose of the study was to examine the smallest-scale impacts that households in the states most impacted were facing.
“This was accomplished by looking at the losses those households experienced and taking into account the difficulties impacted communities faced,” he stated.
