Former Special Advisor on Niger Delta Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Kingsley Kuku, has advocated for the completion and restoration of vocational training facilities in the Niger Delta.
The training center in Kaiama, Kolokuma Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, which was vandalized by thugs in 2019, needs urgent renovation, according to Kuku, who was also Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme under the Jonathan administration.
On Wednesday, while in Abuja visiting the Presidential Amnesty Office, he made the request.
No matter the cost to you, bring back the center, he commanded. Beyond just providing a place to train former agitators, the building, if restored, may function as a center for advanced training for institutions in the area.
Kuku praised former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, current President Bola Tinubu, and late President Umar Yar’Adua for creating and maintaining the Program, respectively.
He praised the Aviation Resuscitation Programme for Pilots/Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, stating that “any Pilot without Type-rating is nothing in today’s Aviation Industry.” Currently, several of the recipients are attending their Type-rating Certification Programme in South Africa. People’s lives are being impacted by you. They will find employment with ease after what you are now doing for them.
He expressed his happiness that Ndiomu has restored optimism to the Niger Delta and pledged his unwavering support for maintaining the achievements of the Amnesty Program.
Major General Barry Ndiomu (retired), the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Program, stated that the program has not fully achieved its goals. Ndiomu suggested that the program be changed to “a Social Investment Agency” in order to have a more direct impact on the lives of young people in the area.
Ndiomu expressed even more regret at the destruction of the Kaiama Vocational Training Centre located in Bayelsa.
He said that Kuku will be honored when the Vocational Training Center in Agadagba-Obon, Ese-Odo Local Government Area, Ondo State, is finished.
