Eight suspected armed robbers have been taken into custody by the Delta State Police Command’s Joint Security Outfit, Operation Delta Hawk, in relation to the reported death of DSP Sunday Okoebor, a police officer.
The dead was a member of the Command’s X-Squad prior to his passing. Tuesday about 0330 hours, he was shot and killed in his residence by armed robbers. This was verified in a statement by DSP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer.
“To ensure clarity and prevent misunderstandings, the Command would like to announce that one DSP Sunday Okoebor, who is a member of the Command X-Squad, was fatally shot at his residence on November 28, 2023, at approximately 03:00 hours,” he stated.
“The deceased officer was fatally shot in the head by suspected armed robbers who had broken into his flat under the pretense of being EFCC agents and realized he was a police officer.” The suspects have admitted to the murder, according to Edafe.
He claimed that the late officer’s family has received condolences from Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass, who has also promised them justice.
He also refuted reports that he (PPRO) was shot and killed at his residence, which were based on a false and widely circulated WhatsApp post.
The command wants to refute this erroneous information in its entirety and urges the public to ignore it altogether.
“Public members are encouraged to stop disseminating misleading information and to contact the command for clarification before speaking with the media,” he continued.
