A million affordable housing units for the disadvantaged population would be made available within seven years, according to the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Shelter Programme.
This was announced on Tuesday at the Sixth Nigeria Affordable Housing Finance and Innovation Summit (NAHFIS Expo 2023) in Abuja by Mrs. Chidimma Makuachukwu, the National Program Manager of Renewed Hope Shelter for the Poor, IDP, and Refugees.
She declared that the federal government will work with state and municipal governments to get the land needed for the homes.
By 2024, the initiative would be expanded to all of Nigeria’s states, she said.
“We are in Benue right now, and we are working with the local and state governments to acquire property. With their help, we are resettling internally displaced people (IDPs) in their ancestral homes.
“In order to strengthen the local authorities’ economy, the people will employ local labor and content.
“This is about the vulnerable states throughout the Federation; there is no selection process involved,” she said.
