The fourth Mutual Benefits National Badminton Championship will begin today, November 29, at the NIS Gym, National Stadium, Lagos, with over 160 players from 27 states vying for honors.
Following a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the championship has returned.
On Saturday, December 2, there will be a closing ceremony and finals. Participants are competing for a total of N5,340,000 in prize money and ranking points to raise their national rankings.
In order to choose the national team for the two major continental events in the first quarter of the following year—the All Africa Senior Badminton Championship in Egypt in February and the All Africa Games in Ghana in March—major considerations will be given to national rankings. Players will be invited to the national camp in January.
As he promised years ago before being elected to his first term in office, NBF President Francis Orbih promised to look into other potential meetings to “keep the players calendar crowded.”
In 2019, there was a previous edition.
