ABEOKUTA: According to the Ogun State Police Command, three people have been taken into custody in relation to the alleged rape and robbery of several students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, who reside in the Ode Remo and Ipara neighborhoods of the state’s Remo North Local Government area.
The three people arrested were Taiwo Oredoyin, Taiwo Kuti, and Folorunsho Saheed, according to a statement made on Tuesday by the command public relations officer, SP Omolola Odutola.
On Monday, November 27, during a police stop and search in the towns of Ode and Ipara Remo, the daring armed robbers were reportedly taken into custody.
According to a portion of the statement, “The Ogun State Police Command has made significant progress in recovering firearms and ammunition from three armed men who have invaded Ode Remo and Ipara, raped female students, and continued terrorizing the tertiary institutions within that area. We also apprehended suspected armed robbers.”
After a victim of their most recent heist revealed the identity of one of the three young men in the gang, the suspects first denied any involvement, frightening Gateway Polytechnic.
“A proactive action based on intelligence was carried out subsequent to a security summit called by Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, in response to recent shooting events at Gateway Polytechnic.
“On November 27, 2023, the police conducted a stop-and-search operation in the Ode Remo and Ipara districts in coordination with other security organizations. A group of three alleged armed young men were apprehended on a motorcycle during the operation.
“The accused used violent tactics to try to avoid being arrested, but they were eventually caught.
