The striker Henry Onyekuru of Al-Feiha is adamant about making Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Since being selected for the 2021 AFCON finals, which were hosted by Cameroon, Onyekuru has not received a call-up from Nigeria.
In the summer, the 26-year-old moved from Turkish team Adana Demirspor to Al-Feiha, a Saudi Arabia Pro League team.
This season, in 14 appearances for Al-Feiha, the dynamic striker has three goals and two assists.
With his strong performance, Onyekuru hopes to persuade Nigerian head coach Jose Peseiro to add him to the team for the 2023 Cote d’Ivoire tournament.
“I genuinely want to be there again, I was at the last AFCON in Cameroon,” Onyekuru stated to Arab News.
“The Saudi league is still perceived negatively in Nigerian football; players there don’t believe it to be as competitive.
But now that they should be able to perceive that, in my opinion. It is competitive because of the players here. Anything can happen, and I’m not giving up.
