Barr. Ameh Madaki, a managing partner of BBH Consulting and an expert in oil and gas, has chastised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Mele Kyari’s reappointment as group chief executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
According to reports, Tinubu accepted the appointments of Pius Akinyelure, the chairman of the NNPLC board, and seven other members on Monday in addition to Kyari’s reappointment.
In response to the event, Madaki stated that Tinubu’s ignorance of the oil and gas industry was demonstrated by Kyari’s reappointment.
He claims that given the ongoing decay in the sector, Kyari’s reappointment is a flagrant insult to Nigeria.
I find that startling. Either he doesn’t care or he doesn’t know what is going on in the oil and gas sector! Retaining Mele Kyari and the majority of the Board members would be a grave disservice to the nation given the amount of mismanagement the company has experienced under his leadership, he added. “It would be a vote of confidence in the gross mismanagement of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry over the years.”
Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari named Kyari as the Group Managing Director of NNPC in June 2019.
