Actors in the social media sphere have been cautioned to exercise caution and verify the information or material they post on social media platforms by Maj. Gen. NC Ugbo, Chief of Military Affairs, Army Headquarters.
The 30th Social Media Influencers seminar, organized in association with the Ukan Kurugh Foundation, featured a speech from the Nigerian Army.
He declared, “People’s perceptions, opinions, and reactions are greatly influenced by the information we share on social media platforms.”
Maj. Gen. Ugbo issued a challenge to media professionals and social media influencers, asking them to consider the veracity of the information they post.
He predicted that this would have a significant impact on the nation’s overall want for security and peace.
Maj. Gen. JH Abdulsalam, for his part, attributed the relative calm in Delta State to the collaboration and backing of the Nigerian Army’s allies.
He mentioned the roles that the populace plays as collaborators in accomplishing the goals of the nation’s socioeconomic growth, peace, and security.
Therefore, the goal of this seminar is to enhance the Nigerian Army’s interactions with bloggers, media professionals, social media influencers, young people, and the general public.
“The goal of the seminar is also to strengthen the current alliance between the Nigerian Army and other security sector players.”
In the words of Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam, “The Nigerian Army understands the beneficial role that the media plays in influencing public opinion, setting trends, and enhancing security.”
This is why the Nigerian Army holds seminars for social media influencers in a few key national places with the goal of energizing, encouraging, instructing, and advancing the nation’s good ideals.
Therefore, it’s critical that young people and influencers maintain their concentration, patriotism, and responsibility on any social media account, platform, or website. The only way to do this is to prevent the dissemination of harmful or divisive content, rumors, fake news, and disinformation.
The significance of the seminar’s topic, “Countering the Spread of Divisive Contents on Social Media: A Collective Responsibility,” is highlighted by this requirement.
According to him, the goal of the seminar is to enhance the Nigerian Army’s interactions with bloggers, media professionals, social media influencers, young people, and the broader public.
He emphasized that “the goal of the seminar is to enhance the current relationship between the Nigerian Army and other security sector stakeholders.”
Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam gave the audience his word that the Nigerian Army will not waver in its commitment to constructing a better and more secure Nigeria.
“Countering the Spread of Divisive Contents on Social Media: A Collective Responsibility” is the seminar’s subject.
