Bashiru Olatunji, a 32-year-old ex-sales agent, was hauled before a Lagos magistrate’s court on Monday due to accusations of stealing.
The defendant is on trial for one count of theft before Magistrate E. Kubeinje.
But he entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.
The defendant committed the crime at Kosoko Street, Ojodu Berger, Lagos State, between January and November, according to the prosecution, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, who testified in court.
She claimed that the defendant took the entire amount of N7,809,000 while working as a sales representative for his workplace, a Deke Super Store in Ojodu Berger.
It is claimed that his employer owns the money.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant had been stealing money from the firm for a considerable amount of time before being caught and taken into custody by the police.
According to her, the crime violated section 287 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law.
The defendant was given N500,000 in bail, with an additional N500,000 for each of two sureties.
Kubeinje mandated that one of the sureties be a blood related and that the other two must be gainfully employed with documentation of their tax payments and verification.
She postponed the trial until December 19.
