Members of the caretaker committee for the Rivers State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress were sworn in by the National Working Committee on Friday.
Vice Chairman for South-South, Victor Giadom, National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and members of the NWC attended the inauguration, which was held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja at around 1:30 pm.
Two days prior, the APC NWC had disbanded the previous state excos in order to form an ad hoc committee to supervise congress’s election of new state executive members.
Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary, declared the dissolution in the party secretariat.
Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary, declared the dissolution on Wednesday at the party secretariat.
Morka revealed that Eric Nwibani was selected as secretary and Chief Tony Okocha as chairman of the seven-member caretaker committee.
Chibuike Ikenga, Stephen Abolo, Silvester Vidin, Senibo Karibi Dan-Jumbo, and Miss Darling Amadi are among the other members.
After the oath-taking, Ganduje addressed the newly sworn-in officers and asked them to get ready for the difficult task of mending party divisions and ex-members.
Additionally, the APC national chairman tasked them with making the most of the six months to establish a conducive climate for the congress that will usher in new leadership at all levels.
“Let me extend my congratulations to the recently sworn-in members of the caretaker committee,” he said. You are undoubtedly well aware that the APC has encountered some difficulties since 2015 with regard to disputes, lawsuits, and counter-litigations, all of which have ultimately led to the demise of our wonderful party in Rivers State.
Thus, the newly elected NWC has chosen to reorganize the party after considering the problems facing it both nationally and in each of the individual states. Without a doubt, some of our members have been with APC from the beginning. A few people departed from the celebration. Several well-known leaders who defected from the party even ran against us in a different political organization. They now want to return. The people who departed to establish factions are prepared to return as well.
“You see, we have faith in you and believe that this is the best time to restructure the party, particularly with a new state party leadership. We would want you to take note of the electronic registration of our members and contribute to leading the exercise since it is a component of the reform system we have implemented.
“We anticipate that you will form a number of committees in order to increase the party’s membership. You should carry out that task, and we anticipate that you will foster an atmosphere that will allow congresses to be held in order to foster the emergence of leaders at the municipal, state, and even senate levels.
Since you are a byproduct of togetherness, there ought to be no discrimination against you.”
