The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) have intensified their cooperation in border enforcement and creative counter-piracy strategies.
The NCC Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Funmilayo Adewale, said this in a statement that was made public in Abuja on Friday.
She said that the agreement was reached when Dr. John Asein, the Director-General of NCC, paid the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, a courtesy call in Abuja.
She claims that the executives of both agencies understand the strategic importance of intellectual property, especially copyright, to the national economy.
Adewale also lamented the damage inflicted on the industry by copyright thieves.
“The two agencies are dedicated to implementing proactive ICT-driven measures and improving their operations via intelligence and training.”
According to the NCC spokeswoman, “sharing as envisaged in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to check copyright piracy and other illicit activities in the copyright sector.”
According to Adewale, the coalition would redouble efforts to boost innovation and Nigeria’s creative economy.
