The ongoing absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the plot to remove the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, have caused a crisis in Ondo State, and President Bola Tinubu has intervened.
Tinubu will be meeting with state political players to discuss ways to break the deadlock that has been impeding the state’s government.
After the conference, rumors circulated that Aiyedatiwa would probably be appointed interim governor.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, the three state senators, the key officials of the state legislature, and Ade Adetimehin, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the state, would all be present at Tinubu’s meeting on Friday at 2:00 pm in Abuja.
“The only information I can give you now is that myself, my principal officers of the House of Assembly, the state chairman of the APC, the national chairman of the APC, and the three senators that are representing Ondo State in the National Assembly will be meeting Mr. President by 2:00 pm today (Friday),” the Speaker of the Assembly stated in confirmation of the meeting.
Additionally, results showed that 11 of the Assembly’s 26 legislators supported Aiyedatiwa in order to make sure the deputy governor took over as acting governor.
One of the MPs, who yearned for anonymity, claimed that the 11 of them were persuaded to take the stand by forces outside the state.
