Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has issued a warning to locals not to encroach on school property, stating that his administration will not permit such growth.
Following an on-the-spot evaluation of the teaching and learning environment at the LEA Primary School, Bagusa, a village in the Dei Dei community of the Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC, the minister issued the warning on Thursday.
The former administration’s walless school contained sixteen tables and roughly 200 students divided among six classes, one of which was a creche.
In addition, Wike promised to immediately construct classrooms for students and a junior secondary school to facilitate the smooth transition of final-year students to the next level. Wike made these promises through Mandate Secretary of Education Dr. Danlami Hayyo).
The decision to conduct a physical examination to determine the school’s short- and long-term needs was made, he said, after the secretariat received reports about the school’s existence and the state of the students.
As for the secretariat, Dr. Hayyo stated that they are dedicated to resolving the fundamental problems that resulted in the intolerable state of affairs at the school.
We discovered that the previous administration founded the school here, so we decided to do an inspection. The previous administration did not give a consistent structure following the founding of the institution.
After reading about it in a newspaper, we became aware of the situation. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory then asked us to visit and assess the school, allowing him to determine what steps he might take to improve the school’s appearance and provide a welcoming atmosphere for the students to learn in.
“The Minister has instructed me to visit and oversee the school so that building can start here as soon as possible.
The current school structure will be replaced with a new, modern building that will house both the junior secondary and primary schools. This will allow students to learn from Primary One to Six in a supportive environment. Additionally, students will be able to attend Junior Secondary School One through Three on these grounds. Once this project is finished, a new classroom block consisting of four will be built thanks to a 2023 funding match from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Also, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory has overseen the building of an extra classroom block with four units. From from point on, JSS 1, JSS 2, and JSS 3 will proceed.
He said, “We will put forth endless effort to improve infrastructure and guarantee that no child’s education is jeopardized by subpar facilities or dangerous circumstances.”
Chebawaza Alfred Shawo Katungu, the school’s ecstatic head teacher, said that before Wike took office as minister, he had nearly given up on any government intervention.
On his side, the Chief of Bagusa village, Zakka Iyah praised the minister for his involvement, stating for years, his people had been looking forward to a change in the fortunes of the school.
