On Thursday, TotalEnergies verified that there was an oil leak in the Egina Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel, which has a 2.3 million storage capacity.
This was revealed in a statement by TotalEnergies’ country communication manager, Dr. Charles Ebereonwu.
He claims that its daily ability to produce crude oil would not be impacted by the events on November 15.
He went on to say that the event won’t have an impact on the nearby villages or shorelines.
“There has been a suitable reaction to minimize the sheen, therefore this is not a significant leak.
He declared, “No beachfront or villages have been damaged,” adding that the event “was not influenced by the crude oil production at the 200,000 barrels per day capacity plant, which has a 2.3 million barrel storage capacity.
According to reports, Nigeria’s capacity to produce crude oil fell to 1.56 million barrels per day in October 2023 from 1.57 million barrels in September 2023, falling short of the nation’s 1.74 million barrels per day quota set by the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
