Many teenagers and young people in Nigeria do not have access to basic health care services, according to Toyin Oke-Osayintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development.
This was said by Oke-Osayintolu in her keynote speech at the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Lagos Branch, 23rd Biennial Conference.
“Investing in Adolescent and Young People’s Health, Education, and Well-Being” was the theme of the event.
She claims that adolescents in Nigeria are a vulnerable segment of the population who deal with problems related to their general well-being, including abuse, exploitation, violence, prejudice, and poverty.
These, according to her, significantly affect both their physical and mental well-being.
She declared, “The Ministry of Youth and Social Development has persisted in offering young people an encouraging environment.”
