Fifteen tankers that were carelessly parked near the Mile 2 Bridge and the Second Rainbow on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos State have been seized by the Lagos State Government.
This was revealed in a statement provided on Thursday by Adebayo Taofiq, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
Adebayo attested that the enforcement actions were conducted in accordance with the instructions given by Sola Giwa, the Special Advisor on Transportation to the Governor of Lagos State.
Peter Gbejemede, the LASTMA Director of Operations, declared that the enforcement campaign would not end until there was no more irresponsible or unlawful parking creating traffic jams throughout the state.
The statement is partially as follows: “Lastma operations seized 15 tankers that were parked carelessly along the 2nd Rainbow down to the Mile 2 Bridge, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos, today during another stringent enforcement operation.
The enforcement activities were carried out in accordance with the instructions of the Special Advisor to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, according to a press statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq.
Investigations revealed that several of the impounded tankers had now started parking carelessly, seriously impeding traffic for drivers leaving the Estates. It was further confirmed that some of the tankers had been detained inside Mile 2 Estates.
The enforcement effort, according to Mr. Peter Gbejemede (LASTMA Director of Operations), was carried out in compliance with the law and would continue until there is no more tolerance for illegal or careless parking throughout the State.
“As a result, the Transportation Special Advisor has asked Motorists to work with the government by reporting any abandoned or broken-down trailers or trucks to LASTMA through the Agency’s hotlines, 08100565860, 08129928515, and 08129928593.”
