In an effort to solve Benue’s drinking water shortage, President Bola Tinubu opened fifteen motorized boreholes on Thursday.
During the project’s launch in Wannue, Tarka Local Government Area, the President announced that the National Lottery Trust Fund provided funding for the boreholes.
Mr. Zaphaniah Jisalo, Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, was in his place.
He said that the Trust Fund has built 19 motorized boreholes in total, 15 of which were situated in Benue’s Tarka and Gboko Local Government Areas.
“Let me express my gratitude to the Trust Fund management team for their successful delivery of 19 motorized boreholes around the country in the shortest amount of time.
“These admirable water and sanitation projects will undoubtedly improve the health of the benefiting communities, stop the spread of diseases, and bring access to clean portable water closer to the beneficiaries,” he stated.
He stated that because of the National Lottery Fund’s enormous potential to create wealth and boost economic growth, the Federal Government would make improvements to the lottery laws.
“Throughout history, the lottery’s money has been utilized in many jurisdictions to provide infrastructure and socioeconomic growth, transforming communities on a global scale.
“One can readily see the immense opportunity that the lottery/gambling sector provides for a nation like Nigeria, with a population of over 200 million people, given its potential.
He said, “As a result, the government will exert every effort to revitalize this sector, which has the potential to generate significant income for Nigeria.”
