Former Nasarawa State Governor Umar Tanko Almakura and another Deputy Governor, Labaran Maku, stormed the Court of Appeal in Abuja to watch the state’s gubernatorial election dispute be resolved.
Maku led a delegation sent by David Emmanuel Ombugadu to watch the events, while Almakura supports the current governor, Abdullahi Sule.
Ombugadu stood against Sule on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whereas Sule is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he utilized to run for office on March 18.
Not only the two of them, but the State House of Assembly Speaker has also entered the courtroom with the state APC Chairman, the Attorney General, and Commissioner for Justice, Labaran Shuaib.
Unaccredited politicians in the former governor Almakura’s and former deputy governor Maku’s entourage were denied entry by police officers stationed outside the court’s main entrance, seemingly following strict orders.
Politicians typically engage in lighthearted banter, but this time there seems to be tension between the camps of Governor Sule and his opponents.
Due to purported misconduct and anomalies during the collation of the election results, a tribunal had on October 2 nullified the governor’s election.
