Habibu Umar, 16, is being held by the Hisbah, a religious police force in Kebbi State, on allegations that he sexually assaulted two children, ages five and six.
A statement posted in Hausa on Hisbah’s Facebook page on Wednesday revealed that he was taken into custody in the Badariya district of Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
According to the statement, Umar confessed to the crime, which is why the regular police force immediately transferred him for a thorough investigation.
The Hisbah Commissioner stressed the seriousness of the situation and Hisbah’s will to take the offenders to court.
