The Senate has promised to mandate that election results be transmitted electronically by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
According to the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, this improvement is one that it is pursuing.
Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the committee’s chairman, stated on Channels TV on Tuesday that the electoral umpire is not required by law to broadcast results online.
He did, however, guarantee that a legislation resulting from an adjustment to the current law will be passed shortly.
“That is one of the things that we are going to do,” he declared. The court has ruled that INEC is not required by the present legislation to upload results.
“Nevertheless, going forward, it will be required.”
“Most Nigerians were disappointed when the IReV didn’t work, so we are looking at the development and improvement of technology, but moving forward, we will try to ensure INEC does something about that,” he added.
