Advocacy for the Rights of the Patients and the Aged Persons in Nigeria Initiative, or ARPAPNI, is a non-governmental organization that has expressed outrage about hospitals turning away patients who are brought in for emergency care.
The organization made this declaration on Monday in Abuja, claiming that turning away patients who are unconscious is a flagrant breach of their fundamental human rights.
Every patient, regardless of their financial condition or the status of their police record, has the right to treatment, especially in emergency situations, according to Mr. Noah Ataboh, Chairman of the group’s Board of Trustees.
He mentioned instances of unconsciousness, mishaps, and other circumstances.
Our mission is to raise public awareness of hospital patients’ rights.
As part of their fundamental human right to life, which can be lost if not exercised, patients have the fundamental right to be responded to in an emergency.
Hospital employees and stakeholders are abusing this right at the hospitals.
We have seen that inadequate equipment and compensation from the government are contributing factors to this state of affairs.
“But above all, hospital staff members must understand that patients, regardless of their financial situation, have the right to timely emergency care,” he said.
He claimed that if those working in the health sector performed their jobs, patients wouldn’t endure suffering in hospitals.
As per his statement, the non-governmental group aims to promote adequate support for the healthcare industry.
