A$AP Rocky, a US rapper, will go on trial for shooting and pulling a gun on a former buddy twice, a Los Angeles court said on Monday.
Two charges of assault with a semiautomatic handgun are being brought against the 35-year-old, who is the father of two children with R&B singer Rihanna. He’s refuted the allegations.
One of the original members of the A$AP group, Terell Ephron, told the court how the altercation in Hollywood in November 2021 left him with minor injuries.
Known by his stage name A$AP Relli, Ephron stated during a hearing last week that the two men’s friendship had soured and that he had abandoned other members of the group, which was established in New York in 2008.
While A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, went on to become well-known and wealthy, he alleged that other members of the group fell into drug abuse and poverty.
Following the demise of one gang member, the two guys engaged in a confrontation that was partially captured on camera.
Says Ephron Mayers yanked a gun out and pointed it in his stomach, threatening to murder him immediately.
Ephron said in a subsequent confrontation that he informed his erstwhile friend that he had “failed everybody,” but no one had the courage to tell him.
“I only wanted him to hear my side,” Ephron stated, recalling that Mayers had fired a shot at him, missing his left hand slightly.
On January 8, Mayers, who is now out on bond, is scheduled to appear in court.
