The 29 Task Force Brigade troops stopped terrorists’ attack on Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni’s convoy on the Maiduguri-Damaturu route on Saturday, according to confirmation from the Defence Headquarters.
According to a statement released on Monday in Abuja by Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the forces also collected two cars that were involved in the event.
According to him, the conditions of the one DSS agent hurt in the attack, four police escorts, and the military vehicle driver were all stable.
He said that one of the police escorts who had been hurt had passed very soon after being admitted to the Specialists Hospital in Damaturu.
To find the terrorists responsible for the heinous deed, 29 Task Force Brigade reinforcements under the command of the Brigade Commander are waging a combat patrol around the region.
One military MRAP and one civilian escort vehicle, both of which had their tires fired at during the event, were the two vehicles involved in the incident. Both vehicles have been safely retrieved to the military base in Benisheikh.
He said, “Operations to find and eliminate the terrorists who carried out the attack are still underway.”
The Governor’s convoy was attacked by terrorists on Saturday while it was making its way from Maiduguri to Damaturu, around 6 kilometers from Benesheikh town.
When the caravan was ambushed, the governor was not there.
Among the other senior government officials in the convoy were the Secretary to the State Government, who escaped unharmed.
