The 10th House would pass more legislation addressing the underlying causes of Nigeria’s security issues, according to Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen’s assurance.
He went on to say that the Nigerian Armed Forces would have more capability to meet the challenges.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Publicity, the Speaker made the commitment while opening a two-day post-inauguration retreat for House Committee on Defence members, which was organized in conjunction with the Committee and the National Defence College in Abuja.
He claims that security is one of the top priorities listed in the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House and that it is our joint duty to make sure that the police and armed services in Nigeria have the resources and equipment necessary to address the various security issues that the country faces.
The need of legislators in putting strong laws that address the underlying causes of security issues in place to support the national security architecture was emphasized by Abbas.
The speaker restated that in order for the 10th House to successfully carry out its constitutional duties, it would continue to support the work of security agencies by providing sufficient budget, cutting-edge equipment, stepping up training, and enhancing welfare benefits for security personnel.
He claimed that the House’s Legislative Agenda, which he introduced on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, committed them to passing laws that would strengthen national security.
The chairman of the committee, Babajimi Benson, voiced worry about the country’s present security issues and gave Nigerians hope that their legislators will continue to conduct their business properly, efficiently, and in a way that protects people’s lives and property.
