Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas signed a measure modifying the term of local government chairman into law on Friday.
The State House of Assembly members evaluated the three-year term of local government chairmen and reduced it to two years.
Just hours before Saturday’s local government council election, which was scheduled, the assent was granted.
At the Government House’s Executive chamber, Kefas gave his assent to the law, complimenting the members on their passage and assuring them that his government would make sure the Saturday local election is held in a calm manner.
He expressed gratitude for the state’s synergy between the legislative and the executive branch and hoped it would continue for the sake of the populace.
He committed to collaborating with the incoming chairmen of local governments to expedite progress at the third level of governance.
Nelson Len, the chairman of the House Committee on Information, stated that the passage of the measure is necessary to ensure that tomorrow’s council election is conducted successfully.
