After the party won favoritism in decisions made by the Appeal Court on Friday, the All Progressives Congress praised the court.
In a statement, Felix Morka, the party’s national publicity secretary, claimed that the verdicts have restored faith in the court as the last resort for the average person.
The ruling of the Governorship poll Petition Tribunal, which proclaimed APC candidate Nasiru Gawuna the victor of the March 18, 2023 poll, was affirmed by the Appeal Court on Friday in Abuja.
The ruling was rendered just twenty-four hours after the Zamfara State governorship election was deemed unresolved by the court, which also mandated a rerun in three local government districts of the state.
According to the statement, both rulings demonstrated the judiciary’s vitality and independence.
Part of the statement said, “The legitimate will of the Kano electorate as expressed at the polls was affirmatively expressed earlier today when the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja upheld the decision of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress the winner of the March 18, 2023 election.”
Barely 24 hours have passed since the court pronounced the Zamfara State governorship election to be unresolved and mandated a rerun in three of the state’s local government areas before dismissing Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party as governor of Kano State.
“Both rulings highlight the judiciary’s vitality and independence and restore faith that the courts are and always will be the last line of defense for justice in any democracy.
As we commend the judiciary for its bravery and professionalism in carrying out its crucial constitutional responsibilities, we implore it to keep rising above intimidation and blackmail from certain self-serving political interests and to uphold the law’s principles in its entirety, regardless of the parties’ identities or statuses.
“We extend our congratulations to our winners and implore the good people of Kano and Zamfara states to maintain their composure and harmony.”
