Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, has criticized the National Assembly for spending N160 million on cars for its members.
The Yoruba elite group claims that it is foolish to make such a decision at a time when the majority of Nigerians are living in abject poverty.
After gathering at Chief Ayo Adebanjo’s home in Ogun State, the group released a communiqué.
The group voiced displeasure in the communiqué signed by Chief Sola Ebiseeni, the Secretary-General, and Adebanjo. They said that government leaders were living in wealth while the public were being urged to keep making sacrifices.
“Members of the National Assembly are approving vehicles worth N160 million for themselves, despite the appalling condition of Nigerian roads, as if the tax players are responsible for fixing them,” Afenifere stated.
The mainstream Yoruba organization also emphasized that, given the high cost of gasoline and the ongoing depreciation of the country’s currency, the Federal Government cannot persuade Nigerians of the necessity of a boat valued at billions of Naira.
