In the Bayelsa State governor’s race on Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it would not count ballots in any polling place if there is violence.
At a stakeholders’ meeting in Yenagoa, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, made this declaration.
Yakubu stated that INEC would provide BIVAS to every polling place for the election, as stated by Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, the INEC National Commissioner overseeing Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers.
I would like to inform you that our BIVAS have been customized for INEC. As a result, the names of the parties and INEC details are displayed on the BIVAS; therefore, any BIVAS that you see that do not have these details cannot be from INEC.
Also, all of the lists of BIVAS serial numbers that we want to utilize are available; the result sheets will be signed at the voting places.
“We won’t hold the election in that polling place again; there will be zero violence there.
Voter education and sensitization efforts are still underway, he added. “We have recruited and carefully trained all categories of ad-hoc staff to be deployed to the field; all non-sensitive materials have been distributed to all eight local government area offices of the state.”
