The National Youth Service Corps, or NYSC, is Nigeria’s most important resource and a source of enormous potential, according to Governor of Osun State Ademola Adeleke.
He noted that the NYSC orientation course was one among the instruments the plan needed to thrive, and that the Nigerian State was responsible for providing them.
At the formal opening ceremony and swearing-in of the 2023 Batch C Stream 1 orientation course for corps members deployed to the state on Tuesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Governor Adeleke made this affirmation.
Governor Adeleke encouraged the corps members to take advantage of this chance to learn new things, broaden their perspectives, and utilize the program as a springboard for their goals.
“Permit the program to serve as a springboard for your goals and objectives. Recall that success involves more than simply achieving personal goals; it also entails contributing to your community and having a good influence.
“I hope you create enduring networks and friendships that will help you on your journey as you participate in these activities and interact with your peers.”
Adeleke urged the corps members to be ready and completely prepared for the transition, pointing out that the youth were leading the way in the world’s rapid development.
“I implore you to take advantage of the NYSC’s Entrepreneurship Development and Skill Acquisition program in order to empower and better yourself. Give the show your full attention.
“I implore you to have high standards for yourself, put in a lot of effort, and lead by example. You can do anything if you have the necessary information and are dedicated to greatness. Your amazing journey has just begun with this orientation program.
Additionally, the governor counseled the corps members to follow all laws and guidelines.
“Always practice law-abiding citizenship and uphold values, healthy friendship, honest communication, and peaceful coexistence. To ensure your position in the future, avoid the frivolities and exuberances typical of today’s youth and instead make an effort to be unique and stand out.
Agbor Ndoma Obim, the Osun NYSC State Coordinator, had earlier urged the just sworn-in corps members to seize the opportunity and rise to the difficulties of their service year in his welcoming speech.
Agbor gave the corps members another assignment: to have a good influence throughout their year of national service.
I implore you to strive to set yourselves apart during the service year since the Scheme offers incentives for dedication and hard effort. A number of honors are given out for exceptional work, including the Presidential Award, the State Honors Award, the Chairman’s Award, and the State Coordinator’s Commendation. As a result, make sure you begin setting yourself apart for these Awards as soon as possible during the Orientation Program.
“I implore everyone to approach the Orientation Course with an open mind and an eagerness to acquire knowledge. You will pick up the values, abilities, and information that will direct you during your service year here. Make the most of the many activities and programs that have been thoughtfully created to help you get ready for the chances and challenges that lie ahead. Recall that you are representatives of harmony and advancement in addition to being participants in a program.
Additionally, the corps members were tasked by the NYSC commander in Osun to dedicate themselves to serving their communities with selflessness and devotion, as well as to serving Nigeria with all of their power.
Agbor asked them to be excellent representatives of their family and the NYSC program, but he also cautioned them against spreading rumors and untrue information on social media.
A total of 2300 corps members—570 women, 950 displaced corps members from Lagos State, and 580 men—were sent to Osun State.
