According to recent polling from The New York Times and Siena College, among registered voters in four significant swing states, former president Donald Trump had an advantage over President Joe Biden in a series of fictitious matchups.
In the 2020 presidential contest, Biden barely won Nevada, where Trump has 52% of the vote to Biden’s 41%. In Georgia, a key state in Trump’s scheme to rig the previous presidential election, he also defeats Biden, winning 49% to 43%.
In Arizona, too, Trump leads Biden, 49% to 44%. Trump is ahead of Biden by five points in Michigan as well, with 48% to 43%.
Primary voting does not start until the next year, and each poll has a sample error margin ranging from 4.4 to 4.8 points. The head-to-head matchup is only theoretical. The overwhelming favorite for the Republican candidacy is still Trump, while Biden is strongly predicted to win the Democratic selection. Last month, Biden faced opposition from Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips in the primary.
The most recent polling from battleground states highlights the significant obstacles that Biden’s reelection campaign faces, such as poor job approval ratings and doubts about his maturity and capacity to lead the nation. The poll numbers for Biden are particularly noteworthy in light of Trump’s growing legal issues. There are four indictments totaling 91 criminal accusations against the former president. To every charge, he has entered a not guilty plea.
In a statement released on Sunday, Biden campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz played down the poll results, telling CNN that “predictions more than a year out tend to look a little different a year later.”
Following those historic midterm elections in 2022, President Biden’s campaign is working hard to mobilize our wide and winning coalition of voters a year early on the decision between the unpopular radicalism of MAGA Republicans and our winning, popular plan. Munoz stated, “We’ll win in 2024 by putting our heads down and working, not by worrying about a poll.”
In Pennsylvania, a state that Biden retook in 2020 but Trump won in 2016, Trump’s percentage is 48% to Biden’s 44%.
A Pennsylvania voter who backed Biden in 2020 but is now backing Trump was quoted by the Times as saying, “The world is falling apart under Biden.”
Someone who I believe has the potential to lead the nation as a positive role model would be my first choice. However, Spencer Weiss stated, “I believe Trump is intelligent enough.”
Meanwhile, Biden wins 47% of Wisconsin votes compared to Trump’s 45%, which is well within the survey’s error margin.
These telephone surveys, performed from October 22 to November 3, almost a year before the general election, provide a single view of the electorate as it stands at this time. However, there is a general dissatisfaction in them.
In these six battleground states, 38% of registered voters approve of Biden’s job performance, while only 19% say the economy is outstanding or good. Meanwhile, comparable to Biden’s 41% favorability rating, only 42% of voters in these states think favorably of Trump.
In these six states, Trump is more trusted by registered voters than Biden to handle the economy, immigration, national security, and the Israeli-Palestinian problem. However, voters are nearly evenly divided on how to handle abortion and democracy.
As CNN previously reported, Biden is doing as poorly inside the White House as he is in any public survey, but his advisors are still convinced that he is the Democratic Party’s best candidate for 2024. They also think that the country will change drastically if Biden loses to Trump in the presidential election, which will be determined by incredibly narrow margins.
Trump’s support from the GOP has not wavered, despite the fact that he is facing numerous legal challenges about his financial dealings, his attempts to rig the 2020 presidential election, and his handling of confidential material.
The former president has not participated in any of the Republican primary debates thus far, preferring to criticize Joe Biden’s record.
