Former Manchester United player Nani has backed Red Devils skipper Bruno Fernandes, saying his teammates aren’t putting up the same amount of work at the squad.
Nani urged his countryman to put in a lot of effort, work hard, and support Man United.
Wednesday night, Man United’s recent bad form continued as they lost 3-0 to Newcastle at Old Trafford, eliminating them from the Carabao Cup.
Meanwhile, Fernandes came under fire for his performance during Man United’s 3-0 Premier League loss to Manchester City last weekend. Roy Keane, a veteran of the team, said that the Portugal midfielder had to be relieved of his captaincy.
But Nani, who played 230 games for Man United at Old Trafford, has now come out in favor of Fernandes.
Nani said to 1 PARA 1, “One of the things that defined the club when we used to play at Manchester [United] was that you could be losing 3-0 with 15 or 10 minutes left in a game, and that is when you saw what mental strength means.”
They are all technically gifted, and when you see Manchester United play, you can see that they have a lot of talent—possibly even more talent than in our day and age.
However, if you watch the game, you won’t see any fighting or selfless attitude. The game must be unlocked by a real Manchester United player; else, it will not function.
“Manchester has excellent players already. Bruno Fernandes is here. I would also be critical of Bruno Fernandes if he weren’t performing well, but he succeeds despite the sacrifice and effort he makes for the team.
We observe it. He contributes, puts up a lot of effort, and works hard. Simply said, a lot of other people are falling behind.
