Bode George, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, has voiced hope about the party’s recovery.
George pledged to restore the PDP’s glory days and asked members to remain faithful.
The PDP split when its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, picked former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.
Following Atiku’s decision, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike called on the G-5 governors and other party chieftains to seek the resignation of the former party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
They wanted Ayu gone to establish “regional balance,” as he and Atiku were both from the north.
However, George stated that attempts will be made to take the PDP ahead.
Addressing the PDP general assembly in Lagos, George stated that despite what transpired in the previous general elections, PDP members should stay faithful because the party would not be allowed to die.
He went on to say: “I urge you all, who have been faithful, to remain steadfast; we would ensure that the party regains its lost glory.”
He guaranteed that, in due time, the party’s national leadership will undertake a “thorough post-mortem to resolve all issues that affected the party.”
