The Jigawa administration claims to have invested N500 million in the construction of better restrooms in the state’s motor parks, hospitals, marketplaces, and schools.
In addition, the government has taken aggressive steps to guarantee the longevity of its leading status as a “Open Defecation Free” state, according to Commissioner for Water Resources Alhaji Ibrahim Hannungiwa, who made this announcement on Wednesday in Dutse.
Hannungiwa claims that the state plans to exceed the national ODF target by 2025.
Hannungiwa added that a great deal of work was put into implementing workable policies and programs in conjunction with the UN Children’s Fund and the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in order to accomplish the achievement.
The Commissioner went on to say that the state had formed a committee to figure out how to maintain its ODF status while guaranteeing the complete elimination of the threat.
More common public restrooms would be available in state highways and public areas under the committee’s direction.
“The state government has made significant efforts to educate the population, particularly in remote areas, about the value of utilizing restrooms.
He added that Umar Namadi, the state governor, had been named as the ODF Ambassador by UNICEF. “Jigawa State is the first and the only state so far declared Open Defeacation Free in the country,” he said.
According to him, the governor would present a paper at a conference scheduled to take place in Canada on the state of affairs in Nigeria about the war against the ODF.
