According to reports, several offices of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWSIEC, are in poor condition for the conduct of a credible election.
Okanla Baba, the Chairman of KWSIEC, announced this during an on-the-spot examination of the Commission’s offices across the state’s 16 local government areas, which concluded this week.
The trip by the Commission’s chairman and members of the electoral body is part of the Commission’s strategic preparation for the state’s credible local council elections.
The trip, according to Okanla, was intended to examine the appropriateness of the site of the Commission’s facilities in accordance with existing legislation, rules, and conventional election processes.
He went on to say that “many of the KWSIEC offices visited across the 16 local government areas, we’re not in good condition for operations of the commission and required to be put in good shape for credible polls”
During interactive sessions with KWSIEC workers in several LGAs, Okanla told them that the Commission’s offices will be completely renovated shortly.
He also stated that offices will be established in areas where none currently exist to facilitate in the conduct of a proper and legitimate election across the 16 LGAs.
Okanla and his colleagues had already visited the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Abuja to beg the national electoral body’s cooperation.
