Mustapha Adamu Isa, alias Abbati, was paraded by the Gombe State Police Command on Friday for the alleged murder of Aishatu Abdullahi Adda Damori.
Damori, 58, a mother of eight children, was murdered in her bedroom last Friday by unknown individuals.
During the procession, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar of the Gombe State Police Command said that a formal complaint was received at Pantami Division from Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, the deceased’s son, who alleged that his mother was killed with a knife by an unknown person about 9:30 p.m.
“The suspect was arrested last Sunday around 1:30 pm in connection with the case following credible intelligence received by the investigative team, headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, SCID Gombe,” Abubakar stated in a press release.
According to him, the suspect crept into the victim’s bedroom looking for his spanner, which she had previously stolen from him. When the victim returned from her neighbor’s (Abbati’s family’s) residence, she discovered him rummaging around in her room. She told him to leave her room, but he resisted, resulting in a fight that ended with him strangling and murdering her with a knife. He then fled through the lavatory to an unknown location, leaving behind his bloodstained clothes and knife but taking the spanner with him.
In response to queries from reporters, the suspects stated that he was in Damori’s room to obtain a spanner to repair a motorbike delivered to the mechanic’s garage in front of the home.
He further stated that it was his first time performing such a crime and that he had no idea what drove him to murder the victim because she was his friend’s mother. He stated that he discovered the knife in her chamber and stabbed her numerous times before leaving with the spanner.
Abbati also stated that he committed the act alone, contradicting his earlier assertion that Idris Abubakar Danjauro was responsible for his sack from the garage.
The knife, spanner, and Abbati’s blood-stained clothing were retrieved as exhibits, according to the command’s PPRO.
