Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, has appointed a seven-member investigative committee to look into the operations of the state College of Education (Technical).
Investigating serious claims of mismanagement and dishonest administrative practices in the administration of the institute and its Governing Council is part of the committee’s mandate, according to a statement released by the governor’s media office on Friday.
Members are also required to look into the purported fraud involving Bluetag Technologies, a financial company hired to collect fees for the college that has outstanding debt totaling more than N84 million.
The report’s additional mandate is to “evaluate the validity of the purportedly unfair hiring procedure and investigate the consequent rise in the college’s monthly grant; and make recommendations based on their findings regarding the proper actions and measures to address the issues raised in a petition to the government.”
According to the statement, the committee was officially inaugurated at Government House on Thursday by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government, who was representing the governor.
Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, Commissioner for Education, is the chairman of the committee. Members include Prof. Obiamaka Egbo, Reverend Father Ikechukwu Ani, Dr. Emma Onyeabor, Edmund Ngene, and Larry Oguego. Onuora Okeke serves as secretary.
They were exhorted to perform with credibility and offer pertinent advice.
“We hope that committee members will apply their experiences to this assignment and give the governor the right kind of recommendations so that Enugu’s teaching and learning model and process will be of the highest caliber.
“Therefore, this committee’s job is to delve into the details, expose the problems with all of these accusations, and make recommendations based on your research,” he stated.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, the chairman, thanked the governor for considering them deserving of the assignment.
He promised that they would not disappoint the state and would put in great effort to turn in their report by the deadline.
He promised that they would work tirelessly to submit their report by the deadline and would not fail the state.
The committee’s report must be turned in within two weeks.
