The Ebonyi State Police command has verified the detention of a number of well-known individuals and young people for allegedly participating in cult battles in the State.
There are rumors that two cult rival groups recently battled in the state’s Nkwuagu region, resulting in the claimed deaths of some teenagers.
According to reports, the incident disrupted commercial operations at the Nkwuagu Market, which is located alongside the Abakaliki/Afikpo Expressway, and caused fear among merchants.
There is a quiet cult battle in Abakiliki and its surroundings, according to a trustworthy source, and roughly four people, including a graduate, have been slain.
“This development has led shop owners near the Nkwagu axis of the military cantonment, where the first and second attacks occurred, to close for the last four days.
“Youths from the same neighborhood and families have left once more out of fear of being assaulted.
Just after cantonment, “traders at the local market have also locked their shops out of fear of being attacked by the armed cultists.”
According to reports, the development drew a significant deployment of security agents, particularly from the military and the police.
Additionally, it was discovered that numerous participants, including an unnamed traditional ruler, were detained in the Nkwuagu region.
The cult battles were verified by the Ebonyi State Police command spokesman, SP, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, in a statement to reporters in Abakaliki.
It was disclosed by Onovwakpoyeya that the probe was still underway.
Investigations into the cult confrontations are still underway, and some people have been detained, she added.
