The Federal Government has claimed that a rising population is causing it to face significant difficulties and a revenue shortfall.
Atiku Bagudu, the minister of budget and national planning, bemoaned the difficulty the Federal Government was having in making payroll.
Speaking on Thursday in Abuja, Bagudu asked non-governmental organizations to assist the government in filling up the gaps that it was unable to.
He expressed regret over Nigeria’s rapid population growth and said that high prices and rising unemployment are also problems.
The minister stated: “Government confronts significant problems, particularly at this time when there is a financial shortfall. The government is hardly able to pay wages since there is no money anyplace in the nation.
“The population is growing quickly and is expanding, but the growth rate is relatively modest. High inflation is occurring when unemployment is on the rise.
This comes amid rumors that Tinubu authorized paying all federal public servants a salary award of N35,000.
According to a message from the Presidency issued by Ekpo U. O. Nta, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, CEO of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, the new salary would take effect on September 1, 2023.
The circular was sent to the President’s Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Ministers and Ministers of State, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief of the Federal Civil Service, Chairmen of Federal Commissions, Federal Permanent Secretaries, Clerk of the National Assembly, Secretary to the National Judicial Council, Secretary to the Federal Judicial Service Commission, Directors-General and Chief Executives of Parastatals, and Agencies.
