About 1001 postgraduate students are being sponsored by the Kano State Government to attend various postgraduate programs in India and Uganda.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Kano Governor Abba Kabir launched the state’s international scholarship program on Thursday, starting with 550 students.
Sen. Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the state’s former governor, launched a program for international scholarships, and Kabir praised it while outlining the advantages it provided for the state.
He claimed that the Kwankwaso administration’s endeavor had provided a significant push for his administration to pursue it.
According to Kabir, it was evident that some of the people trained by Kwankwaso under his program were now holding significant positions of influence within the current regime.
He listed a few of them, including the Special Adviser on Innovation, Dr. Bashir Muzakkir, the Statistician General of the State, Prof. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, and the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahm.
“Let me say that the administration of our mentor, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, launched the foreign scholarship program,” Kabir stated.
“The Honorable Senator supported three groups of students for study abroad programs in around 16 different nations.
“His administration’s sole effort has resulted in a large number of professionals, including Ph.D. holders, thousands of masters degree holders, professionals in the natural and medical sciences, engineering, and aviation, as well as pilots and maritime specialists, among many others.
“Our administration has been much encouraged to continue with this incredibly helpful and well-liked program of overseas scholarship by Kwankwaso’s administration.
In this regard, I’m pleased to report that several of the beneficiaries of our strategy are currently holding significant positions of influence in the current administration.
Earlier in his remarks, Kwankwaso commended the state government’s efforts for continuing in the same direction.
He urged the recipients to make sure they lived up to their goals and contributed to their families, the wider community, and their parents.
Tauroni Local Government Area representative Mr. Babangida Salisu praised Kabir for his dedication in funding the international scholarship program.
Salisu, a recipient of Kwankwaso’s overseas scholarship who studied information technology at a university in Uganda, said he is fortunate to receive another one to pursue his Master’s degree in computer science at Mewar University in India.
The first group of 550 students reportedly picked up their travel permits and scholarship offers from the governor, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Kabir also invited them to a goodbye supper at Government House.
