Mohammed Lawal Falala, the Commandant of the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has ordered staff to act with the utmost care, professionalism, and devotion to prevent the violation of Nigerians’ basic human rights.
This information is found in a statement made by DSC Ibrahim Abdullahi, the command’s public relations officer.
Abdullahi claims that on Wednesday, the NSCDC Commandant delivered the address as he opened a one-day seminar that the Kano Command’s legal division had organized.
“The training is designed to increase staff awareness of the need to adhere to existing laws, codes of conduct, professionalism, ethics, and assure respect for human rights.
We must act professionally at work and in our personal lives to prevent legal action and the enforcement of citizens’ fundamental rights against the Corps. Even suspects that we are holding captive shouldn’t be subjected to abuse and molestation. The statement reported Falala as adding, “We must handle them professionally.
The State Commandant issued a warning to the NSCDC director, “The era of assault and manhandling suspects has gone, henceforth I don’t want to see any enforcement against the Corps.”
Barrister Muhammad Aliyu, the Command’s head of the legal unit, spoke extensively about arrest procedures, overstaying in detention facilities and its legal repercussions, among other various legal issues.
The 44 divisional officers in the state, the seven area commanders, and the command’s and divisional intelligence officers all attended the one-day seminar.
