Residents of Amuzukwu and a few neighboring streets in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, have bemoaned four days of darkness due to an Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, power outage.
Even as of Thursday morning, when this story was submitted, the power outage that began on Sunday evening had not yet been repaired.
Although the EEDC in Umuahia has not released an official statement on the outage, certain corporate executives who did not want their identities published said that a “system failure” was to blame.
Due to the difficulty in getting water currently, Umuahia people who live in the densely populated neighborhood of Amuzukwu have endured unspeakable agony.
The majority of public water boreholes, which rely on public energy, are currently dry, forcing a handful of them that started operating to charge outrageous prices for water.
Since many local companies have been affected, the problem is made worse by the high cost of petroleum items.
