The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) vowed to ban unlawful motor parks throughout the territory on Thursday in response to the recent series of security issues in the nation’s capital.
In response to the operations of “one-chance” thieves in the nation’s capital, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT, made this known to reporters during a conversation in his office.
According to reports, a number of ‘one-chance’ robberies, kidnappings, and other illegal activity have been recorded in the area.
Some locals are afraid due to the security situation as criminal elements that pose as commercial truck drivers to steal or abduct unsuspecting victims continue their attacks.
A combined task force on cross-border crimes was established last week to combat the security threat known as “one-chance” robbery, according to the minister, who was speaking about the measures done so far to solve the security problem.
We’re hearing a lot of tales of kidnappings here and there, according to Wike.
“Most of the time, we don’t even inform the general public of what has been done. The security agencies have accomplished a lot, I can assure you of that. If not, the FCT would have taken a different form at this point.
“We selected a number of places, one of which being the FCT’s central location, with Niger State, Kogi State, Nasarawa State, and Kaduna State nearby. And if you look at these four states, you’ll see that they occasionally have banditry and kidnapping.
And we found that the majority of the places where they (criminals) reside are shanties and incomplete structures, which is why we claim that we cannot permit these incomplete buildings where criminals have established their place of habitation.
“They will have nowhere to hide if you knock down all these half-finished structures that have become shanties.”
“Only last week, we established a task group on the nations with whom we share borders and a remote possibility. The SSS, the police, the army, and the navy are all part of the joint security task force, and they have decided how they will function.
“To let you know that we are worried. We must thus establish this combined task force for border control and one-chance.
“Once more, several unauthorized motor parks are visible. People will argue that the economy is terrible and that things are difficult but nobody will consider the security implications when we establish a regulation that forbids these illegal automobile parks.
We also have plans to close some of these unlawful RV sites.
