Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has explained why he makes all of his own food.
The former Rivers State governor expressed his pride in his culinary abilities.
During a media interview on Thursday, the minister insisted, “I feel glad I can cook and I am delighted when I eat it. I’m happy with it.
When a video showing the former Rivers helmsman cooking in the kitchen while entertaining Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other visitors at his Abuja home went viral a few days ago, it caught the attention of internet users.
Wike was questioned about the popular video and his culinary abilities.
“What’s in food? Should I go and ask the chef to make something when I’m hungry?” he said.
However, he continued to speak from a personal standpoint, indicating that he had grown up with a feeling of accountability in the kitchen.
He claims that as a child, he participated in household activities like grinding pepper and crushing okra as part of helping with dinner preparation.
“Some of us were raised in homes where you were expected to remain in the kitchen if your mother was cooking. You oversee the pepper preparation and assist with the okra pounding, according to Wike.
While some people might think cooking is a waste of time, the minister said he finds it to be both intriguing and incredibly rewarding.
He also spoke about the first meal he prepared after his wife had returned from the United States and had their first kid.
“While some people would consider it to be a waste of time, I find it to be quite intriguing. The day my wife returned with my first son after having her first child in the United States, I welcomed her with okro and okazi soup, he recounted.
He contends that knowing the ingredients in your food is more vital than relying only on pre-packaged meals, the quality and composition of which may be unknown.
Wike also emphasized his preference for eating a meal that he had personally prepared above compromising his morals in order to get money.
“Don’t go eating anything because they want to make a profit or because you want to make a profit if you don’t know how much Maggi is. I don’t,” he declared.
