In a crash involving two trucks on Wednesday along the Potiskum-Nangere route in Yobe State, eight travelers were killed and 47 others were hurt.
One of the vehicles lost control and collided with the other while the travelers were traveling to a well-known monthly livestock market in Potiskum.
Adamu Hassan, an eyewitness, informed reporters that while the injured were transferred to General Hospital Sabon Garin Nangere for medical attention, the bodies had been sent to Potiskum Specialist Hospital.
Eight persons were verified deceased and 47 others had injuries of various seriousness, according to Muhammad Kawuwale, a member of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) who confirmed the tragedy.
“We also learned that 47 people were hurt. Out of this total, 26 come from Nangere and 21 from Potiskum LGA, the speaker stated.
He continued by saying that SEMA has given the victims free medications and other essential actions.
