According to the Nigerian Army, soldiers of the 2 Battalion set up an ambush against roving terrorists in Udowa general area in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State based on actionable intelligence.
According to a statement from Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, during the operations, forces engaged in a violent battle that resulted in the neutralization of three militants while others fled in chaos.
The statement adds that the troops lost one of their personnel during their encounter with the insurgents but that they were able to recover from the fleeing insurgents a bandolier containing 111 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one AK 47 magazine, two motorcycles, one set of high-frequency communication radios, and two mobile phones.
In a different operation that day, soldiers from 1 Brigade stopped and searched a suspect who was carrying ammunition in Birnin Magaji LGA, Zamfara State.
The suspect was sent on a mission to provide ammo to a bandit commander called Gishiri, according to a preliminary inquiry, the statement added.
The statement claims that the alert troops apprehended the courier and discovered a bag carrying 224 rounds of special 7.62mm ammunition, one mobile phone, and N4,000 only.
It stated that the suspect is presently being held and is the subject of additional inquiries.
“In the North East theater of operations, Bulama Bukar, a known Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) commander, has surrendered to the 5 Brigade’s soldiers in Gubio.
According to the report, the terrorist who turned himself up was the BHT Camp Tapkin Chad commander at Gilima village in the Abadam LGA of Borno State.
“Items recovered from the surrendered terrorist include one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 44 rounds of special 7.62mm ammunition, a magazine carrier jacket, a knife, a motorcycle, and the sum of N23,500.00 only,” it stated.
The statement went on to say that the suspect was undergoing profiling sessions right now.
